The publication of this book marked an important moment over two hundred years ago in 1816 when the idea of a Shakespeare Club was first proposed, to be put into motion by the people of Stratford-upon-Avon in 1824 at the Falcon Inn.
The book is based on documentary evidence provided by the rich archives of the Club dating back to its foundation in 1824 and the archives of Stratford-upon-Avon which are preserved in the collections of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
The authors aimed to present a chronological account of the Club's history which have been illustrated with photographs, documents and other visual materials, and also with 'feature boxes', separate short accounts of important people, objects, events and facts interspersed through the text.
